Tuesday’s national forecast

In the North Island a few showers this morning in western areas then clearing by midday with southwesterly breezes, sunny breaks will develop in the afternoon. In the east it will be mostly sunny with light winds, a southwest change develops about Wellington early this morning then Wairarapa by late morning with some showers, a few of these showers could be heavy with some hail in the mix. Mostly sunny in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with light winds tending southwest in the afternoon with some cloud and the risk of a shower, a bit of high cloud about East Cape clears after midday.

At night skies will clear and it’ll become quite cool in most places as a ridge branching out from an anticyclone in the Tasman Sea moves over, frosts are possible in the Central North Island.

In the South Island expect a sunny day with light winds tending northeasterly along the east coast. About Fiordland however there will be northwesterly winds, cloudy skies and the odd shower at times. Southland will have a mix of sunny areas and some increasing cloud, westerly breezes then the risk of a few showers later at night.

High’s of 16 degrees north of Auckland today, mid teens elsewhere however a little cooler about Wellington, Wairarapa and parts of the Central North Island getting to around 12 or 13 degrees. 13 to 14 degrees for most in the South Island, 12 in Fiordland and parts of Central Otago.
