Tuesday’s national forecast

A mix of sunny periods and some cloud over the North Island today with southwesterly breezes a little brisk at times. Expect the odd shower moving through mainly in the west of the island, then easing in the evening and any remaining showers clearing at night.

Sunny areas north of Hawkes Bay along the east coast this morning and dry, the odd shower from afternoon as winds tend more southwesterly. A few showers in Wellington for much of the day with brisk southwesterlies, a period of more invigorated showers develops in Wellington in the evening then moves up the east coast during the night.

Sunny on the West Coast and in Nelson with light winds. Mostly sunny about Blenheim with southwesterly breezes. A few showers about the Kaikoura Coast clear during the morning then a chance of some sunny breaks in the afternoon, drizzle later at night however.

Dry mostly in Canterbury with the odd sunny break possible, drizzle develops later in the evening with some light snow above 700m. Sunny areas and some cloud in Southland and Otago, around midday in Southland southerly winds freshen with some drizzle or patchy rain which clears later in the evening. Some snow with that change to 500m, accumulations will only be small in the order of 2 to 3cm. The southerly change moves into Otago late afternoon or evening with similar weather however drizzle or rain clears a little later at night.

16 to 17 degrees north of Auckland today, mid teen temperatures elsewhere. A bit cooler about Wellington, the Wairarapa and the Central North Island however with low double figure high’s today. Mid teen temperatures for Nelson and along the West Coast north of Hokitika. 11 to 13 degrees elsewhere in the South Island.
