Tuesday’s national forecast

A front moves over the South Island this morning and afternoon then onto the North Island this evening. Rain for western regions with the front, possibly heavy with thunderstorms. High cloud and only the odd shower out east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, then rain develops during the evening. Rain may be heavy with possible thunderstorms. Rain easing overnight as northwest winds change strong southwest.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with the odd shower, late afternoon rain with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Westerly winds change gusty strong southwest in the evening with rain easing to showers at night.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, some evening rain then clearing around midnight as northwesterly winds change gusty southwest.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Becoming cloudy in the morning with rain from late afternoon, northwest winds change southwest later on in the evening.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Thickening high cloud, a few spots / areas of rain move through in the afternoon then clear by evening as gusty northwest winds change southwest.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury

Increasing high cloud, evening showers as northerly winds change southwest.
High: 14

West Coast

Cloudy with rain moving in during the morning becoming heavy with possible thunderstorms, easing late afternoon as northerlies change gusty southwest.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago

Morning rain then easing to showers. Coastal Otago becoming dry with some sun after midday. Gusty westerly winds.
Highs: 11-12
