Tuesday’s national forecast

A northerly quarter airflow lies over New Zealand today, some rain or the odd shower in the north and west. A few spells of rain spread into parts of the east coast of the South Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower, especially in the east. Breezy East to Nor’East winds.
High: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny areas and some cloud with cloud gradually increasing during the day. A few spells of rain possible from late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 22-29

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, thickening in the evening. Northerly winds tending more northeast nearer the coast.
Highs: 26-28

Wellington
Sunny areas with north to northwesterly winds. Chance spot of rain late afternoon / evening.

High: 24

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud about Marlborough, perhaps a spot of rain in the afternoon but more likely overnight. Nelson sees mostly cloudy weather, a few spots / spells of rain from midday. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-27

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly winds for most although right on the coast winds may tend northeast. Overnight a few spots / spells of rain spread into Mid and North Canterbury from the northwest.
Highs: 29-30

West Coast

Sunny areas with northerly winds, some rain for Fiordland. Mid afternoon rain moves into Buller then spreading southwards in the evening bringing the chance of a few heavy falls / thunderstorms.
Highs: 21-24

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas and some high cloud, breezy north to northwesterly winds for most although tending northeasterly about coastal Otago. A few spots of rain possible at times otherwise dry.
Highs: 24-27
