A southerly airflow lies over the country today, many regions can expect showers for a time especially this afternoon. Showers could become heavy with thunderstorms about some South Island areas this afternoon.

Northland
Periods of cloud with westerly winds, chance of a brief late afternoon / evening shower otherwise dry.
Highs: 18

Auckland

Periods of cloud with westerly winds, a few brief afternoon showers
possible then clearing.
High: 17

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells and some increasing cloud with light northwesterlies, a few
brief showers late afternoon / evening then clearing.
High: 18

Central North Island & Waikato

Expect periods of cloud and sunny spells, a few morning showers clear then
late afternoon / evening further isolated showers are possible before clearing
by midnight. Light northwesterlies tend more westerly in the afternoon.

Eastern North Island

Sunny spells with light winds, a few isolated showers possible late
afternoon / evening then clearing by midnight.
High: 18

Taranaki

Morning cloud with a few showers then clearing midday, westerly winds. A
few sunny spells develop in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island

Some morning cloud with a few showers then clearing, light winds tend
southwesterly. In the evening there could be a few further isolated
showers.
High: 16

Wellington

Sunny spells with light winds, chance of a morning shower then clearing.
Winds tend southerly in the afternoon then further showers develop in the
evening.

Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon, chance of
an isolated shower late afternoon / evening mainly inland about the
ranges.

Marlborough

Cloud builds from morning with light winds, periods of rain develop in the
afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms and hail as winds tend southeasterly.
Highs: 15

Canterbury

Periods of cloud with light south to southwesterly winds, a few isolated
showers from afternoon especially inland where there could even be thunderstorms
and hail. Snow flurries to 500m.

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light winds, a few isolated showers possible about the
ranges in the afternoon especially about Buller then clearing later.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago

Periods of cloud with cool southwesterlies, showers from midday with a risk
of hail then clearing in the evening. Some snow to 400m.
High: 11-12

Central Otago

Periods of cloud with light southerlies, chance of a shower or two mainly
late afternoon / evening then clearing.
Highs: 10-11

Southland

Cloudy periods with southwesterly winds, a few showers about with long dry
spells too.
High: 11
