A northerly airflow strengthens over the country today with a front closing in from the Tasman Sea bringing rain to the west then briefly to the east later in the day. Patchy drizzle or showers hang about Auckland for much of the day.

Mostly cloudy with patchy showers or rain at times, dry spells too. Breezy northwesterlies.

Auckland

Cloudy with early rain easing to patchy drizzle / rain at times then
clearing overnight. Northwesterly winds.
High: 20

Bay Of Plenty

Any early rain clears then expect mostly cloudy skies with northerly winds,
patchy drizzle possible mainly from midday.
Highs: 18-19

Central North Island & Waikato

Periods of cloud with north to northwesterly winds, early rain clears in
the northeast then there may be a light shower or two again from this afternoon.
A greater chance of showers exists from evening.
Highs: 19-21

Eastern North Island

A chance of an early shower about Gisborne then clearing, mostly sunny
otherwise elsewhere with northeasterlies freshening this afternoon, high cloud
increases too. Later this evening there may be a few spells of rain spread from
the west.

Taranaki

Cloud increases this morning with northerlies freshening from late morning,
spells of rain develop late afternoon / evening then clear by midnight.
High: 18

Western North Island

Mostly sunny this morning with light winds, areas of cloud increase from
midday with northwesterly winds. Expect some evening rain.
Highs: 22-23

Wellington

Mostly sunny this morning then cloud increases from afternoon with
freshening northerlies, expect some evening rain.
Highs: 17-18

Nelson

Cloud increasing from this morning with northerly winds freshening, some
evening rain.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with high cloud thickening from late morning, northerly winds
becoming gusty in the afternoon then in the evening some brief rain moves
through.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

High cloud thickens from this morning with northeasterly winds becoming
gusty, perhaps even strong about the coast this afternoon. Winds tend more
northerly inland with slightly warmer temperatures. There may be some brief rain
in the evening otherwise dry.

West Coast

Cloudy or becoming cloudy this morning, rain moves into South Westland
around midday then further north during the afternoon. Rain will be heavy for a
time then easing during the evening for most. Northeasterly winds freshen then
tend northwest later in the day.

Coastal Otago

High cloud thickens from this morning, northeasterlies becoming gusty. Some
brief rain late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Central Otago

High cloud thickens from this morning, north to northeasterly winds
freshen. Some brief rain late afternoon / evening.
