Tuesday night’s national forecast

A low over northern New Zealand tightens up this evening and overnight meaning strong winds for Northland, Auckland, Bay Of Plenty and Taranaki. Along with this comes heavy rain for various regions in the upper North Island. The South Island is fairly cloudy, rain about North Canterbury will thankfully ease this evening and overnight. Southland and Central Otago are mainly dry.

Northland

Clear spells for the northern half of Northland, about the southern half heavy rain clears this evening. As the rain clears strong northeasterly winds change northwest.

Tonight’s Lows: 11-13

Auckland

Rain with heavy falls, rain eases overnight. Strong easterlies gusting to
gale about the coast in the east, mainly overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Bay Of Plenty

Rain with heavy falls, brisk easterlies becoming strong later with gales
possible overnight especially near the coast.

Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Waikato & Central North Island

Rain with brisk easterlies, rain heavy at times about the Waikato with
strong easterlies there overnight.

Tonight’s Lows: 9-11

Eastern North Island

Rain with heavy falls developing overnight, especially Hawkes Bay
northwards. Gusty easterly winds.

Tonight’s Lows: 10-12

Western North Island

Periods of rain with southeasterly winds, strengthening overnight. Winds
about Taranaki may get quite strong gusting to gale force at times overnight,
rain also heavy at times about Taranaki.

Tonight’s Low: 11

Wellington

Rain with east to southeasterly winds.

Tonight’s Low: 10

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain with gusty east to southeast winds, strong about the Sounds.

Tonight’s Low: 9-10

Canterbury

Cloudy with drizzle, areas of rain more likely for North Canterbury but
easing this evening.

Tonight’s Lows: 6-7

West Coast

Cloudy with gusty southeasterlies, patchy rain at times.

Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Coastal Otago

Cloudy with east to northeast winds, drizzle patches.

Tonight’s Lows: 6-7

Central Otago

High cloud with east to northeasterly winds, areas of cloud thicker and
lower in northeastern parts of the region with drizzle patches clearing this
evening.

Tonight’s Lows: 2-3

Southland

Areas of high cloud, east to northeasterly winds.

Tonight’s Low: 4
