Thursday’s national forecast

A light north to northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, conditions are mainly dry out east for both Islands with pleasant temperatures. The South Island’s West Coast receives showers, in the west for the North Island conditions are a mixture between dry a showery spells.

Northland
Cloudy spells and the odd sunny break, isolated showers develop around midday with northeasterlies.
Highs: 16-18

Central North Island, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty & Auckland
North to northeasterly winds with sunny and cloudy spells, could be a morning fog patch or two about some inland areas. Mid to late afternoon the odd isolated shower develops for some.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island
Sunny with north to northwesterly winds, warm temperatures.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island
Cloudy and sunny spells with northerly breezes, easing late afternoon onwards. There may be the odd shower, mainly northern Taranaki and Kapiti.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington
Cloudy periods with the odd shower, dry breaks at times. Brisk to strong northerly winds, easing at night.
High: 14

Nelson
Cloudy with north to northwest breezes, areas of rain move in during the afternoon.
Highs: 14-15

Marlborough
Plenty of high cloud with northwest breezes, chance of the odd spit at times spreading from the west afternoon onwards. Some rain at night.
High: 16

Canterbury
Sunny but plenty of high cloud developing by midday, light winds.
Highs: 15-16

West Coast
Showers with north to northeasterly winds, a few heavy falls north of about Hokitika late afternoon and evening.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny with light winds, some high cloud at times.
Highs: 13-14

Central Otago
Sunny spells and some cloud, west to northwest breezes.
High: 11

Southland
The odd shower, sunny spells at times during the afternoon. West to northwest breezes.
Highs: 11-12
