A front moves over the North Island today bringing wet weather to most areas for a time. In the South Island expect calmer conditions to develop as a ridge moves over extending out from an anticyclone centred over Tasmania. Another burst of shower moves onto the lower South Island later in the day however associated with a small front and low pressure system.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Rain from morning with northwest breezes changing southwest, rain clears late afternoon with cloud breaking up a little at night. Southwesterlies a bit breezy during the afternoon along western coastlines and for much of Northland.
Eastern North Island
Rain with south to southwesterly winds picking up from morning. Rain eases later in the evening then clears at night.
Western North Island
Morning rain easing to the odd shower which clears early afternoon, sunny breaks then slowly push through. Breezy southerlies ease in the evening.
Morning showers clear with sunny breaks developing by midday, brisk cold southerlies ease at night.
Mostly sunny with some cloud mainly in the morning, southerly breezes ease during the evening.
Canterbury & Marlborough
Morning showers clear with skies becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, southerly breezes brisk about Marlborough easing later in the day.
Mostly sunny with west to southwest breezes, a few clouds at times. A few showers spread north overnight.
Southland & Otago
Cloudy skies for Southland with periods of rain, breezy westerlies. Mostly sunny about coastal Otago with breezy westerlies easing late afternoon, later in the evening southwesterlies freshen with showers possibly heavy. Sunny for inland Otago after a frosty start, chance of an evening shower.
