Thursday’s national forecast

An anticyclone covers most of New Zealand today, a cold front moves onto the lower South Island this morning reaching the upper South Island later this evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes. Northland sees morning showers then clearing for most although the odd isolated one may remain through till evening, east to southeast winds.
Highs: 18-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny, light winds tend west to southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-20

Eastern North Island
Sunny for Wairarapa, mostly sunny about Hawkes Bay after morning cloud clears. Gisborne has a few showers, clearing in the afternoon then sun breaks through. Light winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay, Gisborne sees south to southeast winds tending northeast by evening.

Wellington
Mostly sunny, northerly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with light winds, late evening or overnight southerlies develop bringing cloud.
Highs: 16-20

Canterbury
Mostly sunny, late evening southerlies freshen bringing showers, possibly heavy overnight.
Highs: 16-20

West Coast
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, some rain moves into Fiordland during the morning then easing and clearing in the afternoon. Southerly quarter winds.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Dry first thing then showers (possibly heavy) develop in the morning about Southland then Otago around midday with a southwest change. Showers ease in the afternoon about Southland and evening for Otago.
Highs: 13-18
