Thursday’s national forecast

A front over the North Island slows down and weakens today meanwhile conditions are more settled further south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers about the Waikato spreading elsewhere into the upper North Island during the afternoon, west to northwesterly winds tilt to the southwest during the afternoon. Showers clear in the evening for most but a few lingering about the Bay Of Plenty and perhaps eastern Northland.
Highs: 24-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain or showers then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, southeasterly winds develop.
Highs: 20-24

Eastern North Island
Showers about the Wairarapa clear afternoon. Showers develop in the morning for Hawkes Bay with southwest winds, tending easterly in the afternoon. Showers moving into the Gisborne area early afternoon after some morning sun.
Highs: 19-22

Wellington
Any early showers clear then mostly sunny. Southeasterly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy about Nelson and Marlborough, easterlies for Marlborough, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury
Cloud breaks to some sun in the afternoon, southwesterly winds tend easterly after midday.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast
Mostly sunny with light winds then afternoon westerlies.
Highs: 17-22

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas and a few showers about Southland, more so from afternoon. Otago has a mix of sun and cloud. West to southwesterly winds, brisk for coastal areas.
Highs: 14-18
