Thursday’s national forecast

A front moves across the North Island today pushing in from the west, a calmer story for the South Island with morning rain or showers on the West Coast then clearing.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of showers and dry spells, some rain for a time late afternoon / evening then clearing at night as northwesterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers developing about Taranaki towards midday, spreading elsewhere in the afternoon then easing in the evening. Showers may be heavy for a time. Northwesterly winds for most, changing breezy southwest about Taranaki in the afternoon.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island
A mostly sunny morning then expect increasing high cloud, a few spots of rain possible late afternoon / evening. Light northerlies.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington
Cloudy areas, chance of a shower or two mainly late afternoon / evening. Northerly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud for Marlborough, breaking away later in the afternoon. Nelson sees slightly cloudier skies, chance of a shower too in the afternoon then cloud breaking away late afternoon also. Light winds.
High: 13-15

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, breaking away during the afternoon. Light winds tend easterly by midday.
Highs: 11-13

West Coast
Some morning rain or showers then sunny areas increase from afternoon, light winds.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud may bring a few spots of rain then becoming sunny in the afternoon, light northwesterly winds, perhaps tending southerly for a time about coastal Otago.
Highs: 10-13
