A low moves over the North Island today while southwesterlies ease further south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, especially late morning and early / mid afternoon then easing and sunny spells increasing. Westerlies tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain eases to showers then clearing during the afternoon, southeasterly winds develop by midday.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Showers about the Wairarapa move into Hawkes Bay by midday then Gisborne early afternoon as northwest winds change southwest, showers clearing in the evening for all.
Highs: 18-25

Wellington
Early heavy rain eases to showers, clearing around midday then sunny spells develop, breezy southerly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Early heavy rain eases to showers then clearing, becoming mostly sunny by midday. Southerlies tend easterly in the afternoon for Marlborough, northerly for Nelson.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury
Showers, mainly about Banks Peninsula and perhaps some coastal parts then clearing in the afternoon with sunny areas then increasing. Morning cloud elsewhere then sunny areas increase from afternoon. Light winds inland, southwesterlies near the coast die out later in the afternoon or evening.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast
Mainly sunny with light winds tending west to southwest in the afternoon, any morning cloud about Buller clears.
Highs: 20-23

Southland & Otago
A few morning showers (mainly about Southland and coastal Otago) then sunny spells increase, breezy west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-19
