Thursday’s national forecast

A mainly high pressure day for New Zealand as we head towards the end of the working week, generally settled but there may be a few areas of morning low cloud. A chance of isolated showers late afternoon / evening about the upper North Island and lower South Island some of which may be heavy.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

A mix of sun and cloud after any early fog clears away, isolated showers late afternoon / evening possibly heavy with thunderstorms mainly about inland areas. Light winds and afternoon sea breezes.
High: 25-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas. Cloud builds again after midday with isolated showers late afternoon / evening, mainly inland then clearing later on. A few showers may become heavy with thunderstorms. Light winds.
Highs: 25-28

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with any morning cloud breaking away, afternoon east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 25-26

Wellington

Any early low cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, light winds.
High: 24

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with afternoon north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 26-28

Canterbury

Morning cloud or fog breaks to afternoon sunny areas, southwesterly winds tend east to northeast after midday.
Highs: 23-25

West Coast

Mostly sunny with west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-26

Southland & Otago

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, late afternoon / evening isolated showers develop possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing away. West to northwesterly winds develop around midday for most although winds tend northeast about coastal Otago.
Highs: 20-23
