Thursday’s national forecast

Anticyclones lie either side of New Zealand in the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean respectively today, a weak area or trough of sorts lies over the North and South Islands. The South Island is mainly settled while the North Island sees cloud and showers for some regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mainly cloudy with a few showers about, chance of a heavy downpour this afternoon about Auckland and the Waikato, perhaps the Bay Of Plenty later this evening. East to northeasterly winds. Northland is mainly cloudy today with only the chance of a shower about this morning, winds from the southwest.
Highs: 19-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy, the odd shower about especially this afternoon with there is the risk of a heavy fall or two. Easing later this evening perhaps clearing. Northerlies tend west to northwest this afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

Eastern North Island
Areas of cloud, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon or evening otherwise dry. Northeasterly winds.

Wellington

Sunny with northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 19-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with afternoon north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-25

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with light winds this morning, afternoon easterly winds. Cloud thickens up a little this evening.

West Coast

Mostly sunny with southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 18-20

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy about Southland with brisk to strong westerly winds, chance of the odd shower otherwise dry. Mostly sunny for Otago with west to southwest winds.
