Thursday’s national forecast

Unsettled weather for most of New Zealand today however not looking bad for the West Coast of the South Island. A southerly airflow for much of the country while a low moves from west to east about northern parts of Northland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with areas of rain from morning about Northland and elsewhere in the afternoon, Northland may see a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Northerly winds change southwest in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mainly cloudy with patchy showers possible in the morning, areas of rain from afternoon. Northwest winds change around to the south by evening.
Highs: 15-16

Eastern North Island

Rain moves into the Wairarapa in the morning on a southerly change then pushes into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne late afternoon / evening. Sunny before rain moves in.
Highs: 17-22

Wellington

Morning rain eases to showers by midday, showers clear overnight. Northwest winds change southerly.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Any early showers clear then expect mainly cloudy skies, a few showers move in again mid to late afternoon. Southeasterly winds pick up during the morning.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury

Patchy showers turn to rain during the afternoon, southerly winds.
High: 12

West Coast

Any early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Cloudy with early rain then patchy showers, mainly dry in the afternoon for Central Otago with sun breaking through. Breezy southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-11
