Thursday’s national forecast

A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, mainly cloudy in the west with rain or showers. Northland and Auckland stay fairly dry till later in the day however. Out east warmer weather is on the way again for most regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of cloud and sun for Northland and Auckland, the odd shower possible mainly later in the day as cloud thickens up. The Waikato and Bay Of Plenty become mostly cloudy in the morning with the odd shower from afternoon. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas with the odd patchy light shower, rain for Taranaki especially in the north from late afternoon. Chance of a thunderstorm overnight for Taranaki. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud increasing from the south after midday, northwesterly winds brisk about the Wairarapa.
Highs: 19-23

Wellington

Cloudy with a few patchy showers, brisk Nor’Westerly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Plenty of high cloud with brisk northwesterly winds, a few spells of rain move through in the afternoon then clearing evening. Rain about Marlborough will be less frequent and more scattered.
Highs: 15-19

Canterbury

Morning high cloud with any early spots of rain clearing to a mainly sunny afternoon. Northwesterly winds, breezy inland.
Highs: 20-22

West Coast

Morning rain eases to showers, chance of a brief sunny spell later in the day then overnight clouding up with some rain moving in again. Northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas with light winds, late afternoon or evening a southwest change develops bringing a few showers.
Highs: 15-17
