Sunday’s southerly showers

The weather is looking pretty quiet for today for both islands, even though a few showers may dot the eastern and northern parts of the North Island and the western part of the South Island.

Tomorrow is looking a bit more unsettled for the South Island.

A weak cold front will move north across the island, bringing a chance for showers with it.  It looks like most of the precipitation should stay in the southern and central sections of the island.  That means Nelson and Marlborough may not see any precipitation until after dark.  Even Christchurch could miss out on the daytime showers.

In fact, the whole front may fall completely apart before it even reaches the northern tip of the South Island.

So, whilst today is looking pretty settled for places like Dunedin, Invercargill, Gore and Timaru, that is expected to change for tomorrow.
