Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Any early showers clear then expect sunny spells with west to southwest breezes, there may be a brief shower or two move through at times during the day north of about Auckland otherwise expect mainly dry conditions.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny in the east with west to northwest breezes, northerlies for Wellington. An evening southerly moves into Wellington and Wairarapa bringing cloud and a few showers. Westerlies in the west with sunny spells, any early showers south of Taranaki clear. In the evening southerlies move in bringing some cloud and the risk of a further shower.

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny in the east with westerly breezes, an southerly change moves into Canterbury late morning then Marlborough in the afternoon bringing some cloud and the risk of a shower. Nelson stays mostly sunny during the day with westerlies, easing away later in the afternoon. On the West Coast expect showers and westerlies, then easing in the afternoon with a southwest change, showers clear in the evening.

Lower South Island

A period of morning rain on the West Coast south of Haast and showers in the east then clearing with a southwest change, sunny spells then increase with southwesterlies easing later in the day.
