Westerly breezes kick in for two thirds of New Zealand today and when morning fog clears it will help make for a mostly sunny, warmer than average day in many parts of the country.

The flip side is that cloud, rain and showers starts to move in to western regions.

Morning fog, especially in the upper North Island. West to north breezes in the lower North Island, calm elsewhere. A light isolated shower possible around Kapiti/Horowhenua otherwise dry. All regions warmer than average this afternoon.
Highs: 16 to 21

SOUTH ISLAND:
Rain on the West Coast with some heavy falls. Rain mostly south of Hokitika or Greymouth, dry further north. A mix of sun and cloud for all other regions with west to north west winds, generally speaking. Mostly places warmer than average this afternoon.
