Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Cloudy with patchy drizzle turning to rain in the afternoon, northeasterly winds.

Lower North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd patchy shower or spot of rain at times in the west and for Wellington, winds from the north or northwest. Thick high cloud out east with northerlies, mainly dry although a spot of rain is possible later in the evening.

Upper South Island

Cloudy in the west with morning rain easing to showers, rain may remain fairly persistent for much of the day about Buller and the northwest Nelson area. Rain spreads across into Marlborough for much of the day with gusty northwesterlies. Canterbury sees morning high cloud with a spot of rain possible then becoming sunny in the afternoon with warm temperatures as breezy northeasterly winds tend northwest.

Lower South Island

Morning rain eases to showers in the west. Morning cloud about Southland and Otago may bring a few spots of rain then sunny areas increase in the afternoon, breezy northwesterlies.
