Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Periods of cloud especially in the morning, afternoon sunny areas. Winds light mostly tending easterly or northeast. Chance if an isolated shower or two late afternoon / evening, mainly about the Waikato and Northland.

Lower North Island

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, light winds and afternoon sea breezes. However from Taranaki down through to Wellington in the west cloud builds from morning, chance of the odd shower from afternoon then clearing evening.

Upper South Island

Periods of rain Greymouth northwards in the west and Kaikoura northwards in the east, easing to the odd shower and sunny spells. Sunny areas and some cloud elsewhere with southerlies in the east and northwesterlies in the west. In the afternoon isolated showers develop about the ranges inland, chance of a heavy fall and or isolated thunderstorm then easing later in the evening.

Lower South Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, winds mainly light with sea breezes in the afternoon. Chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening inland about the ranges otherwise dry.
