Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells for Auckland and the Waikato, southwesterly breezes. Northland may remain fairly cloudy during the day with the odd light morning shower in the west A mostly sunny day for the Bay Of Plenty with any morning cloud clearing, light
southwesterlies.

Lower North Island

Sunny spells and some cloud increasing from late afternoon, west to northwest winds. Sunny along the east
coast with light winds, northwesterlies for Wairarapa. Sunny spells for
Wellington with brisk northerlies from afternoon, winds change southerly
overnight.

Upper South Island

Cloudy on the West Coast north of Hokitika with increasing westelies, showers develop by midday. Showers then
clearing in the evening with westerlies easing away, perhaps tending southerly.
Mostly sunny for Nelson with west to southwest winds, some evening high cloud
for a time. Sunny areas and increasing high cloud with northwesterly winds along
the east coast, winds change southwest late afternoon or evening with a few
periods of cloud moving into Canterbury.

Lower South Island

Rain on the West Coast south of Hokitika with breezy northwesterlies, rain eases to
showers in the afternoon with a southwest change then clears by evening with
winds easing. Northwesterlies change southwest in the morning about Southland
bringing a period of showers then clearing, late clear spells. Gusty
northwesterlies about Otago with high cloud, an afternoon southwest change
brings a few brief showers then clearing.
