Sunday night’s national forecast

A westerly airflow lies over the country tonight, most of the action weather is about the South Island in the west and far south. A period of showers does move through overnight for the North Island however mainly in the west.

Northland, Auckland, CNI, BOP & Waikato
Mainly clear, the odd shower moves through overnight however. West to southwest breezes.
Lows tonight: 6-13

Eastern North Island
Clear skies with westerly winds.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Western North Island
A few showers develop this evening with westerly breezes, showers clear after midnight.
Low tonight: 9-10

Wellington
Mainly clear skies, breezy north to northwest winds. There may be a few brief showers this evening.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Nelson
A mix of clear spells and some cloud with westerly breezes. Cloud builds towards dawn and the odd shower may start to creep in.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Marlborough
Mainly clear with westerly breezes.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Canterbury
Mainly clear tonight with northwesterlies, towards dawn some rain develops and there could even be a few heavy falls then.
Lows tonight: 5-6

West Coast
Cloudy with showers, becoming heavy and possibly thundery around dawn. Westerlies.
Lows tonight: 5-7

Southland & Otago
Showers and snow flurries to 500m about Southland tonight, the odd fall may be heavy and thundery with hail. Winds gusty from the west. The odd shower about Central Otago with westerly breezes, snow flurries to 500m. Gusty westerlies about coastal Otago ease, clear spells with some cloud. There is the chance of a heavy shower south of Dunedin for a time this evening.
