Thought it was cold this morning? Well some centres, like Hamilton and Auckland, had their coldest morning so far for 2009.

Hamilton dropped to a staggering -4.3

Waitakere/West Auckland -1.3

Taupo -4

Waiouru -6

Rotorua -2

Christchurch -2.9

Timaru -2

Here I recorded 1.9c at 6.30am! My record was 12th July 2001 0.4c!

We had 2 deg at 7am in Whangarei, stunning morning which has carried over into the afternoon, a very good crunchy frost on the ground. Great weather though.

What’s the coldest Auckland/Hamilton has ever got to? -4 must be close to a record for up there.

To my knowledge, I think Hamilton had around -9 back in the 1970’s. Can someone confirm this?

We had a ‘very thick’ frost this morning up in the Bay of Islands. All gone now and it’s a stunning day.
