Saturday’s national forecast

A low centred east of New Zealand on Saturday drives an easterly quarter airflow over the South Island, westerlies further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be heavy at times especially afternoon / evening in the west. Occasional sun. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, some may be heavy at times. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island
Morning patchy rain or showers then becoming mostly sunny by midday, light northwesterlies.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Patchy rain or showers, variable winds as a low centre passes over.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy with areas of rain or a few showers, light winds.
Highs: 11-13

Canterbury
Patchy rain or showers, south to southwesterly winds. Rain may become heavy later in the evening / overnight especially inland.
Highs: 9-11

West Coast
Plenty of high cloud, a few morning showers about North Westland clear then mainly dry. Overnight rain becomes heavy further inland about the ranges north of the glaciers, remaining mainly dry right on the coast.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago
Rain or showers with south to southwesterly winds, overnight rain may become heavy for north Otago with winds tending more easterly.
Highs: 8-11
