A low centred west of New Zealand extends over the North Island later today, southerlies gradually freshen over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A few showers. Rain about Northland possibly heavy in areas, perhaps even a few thunderstorms then spreading southwards this afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms. Winds generally from the northerly quarter.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Any morning spots of rain clear then expect sunny areas and some high cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening. Light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Cloudy areas, chance of a shower then showers more likely from this evening as southerlies develop.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Dry at first this showers move in this morning. Light winds gradually pick up from the east or southeast this afternoon.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Mostly sunny then a few showers move in this evening as southerlies develop.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Any morning rain clears away then expect sunny areas and some high cloud, southeasterly winds gradually develop.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Chance of an early shower then expect cloudy areas and some sun at times, some light drizzle from evening. Light winds tend east to southeast this afternoon.
Highs: 11-13
