An anticyclone lies over the South Island today, a south to southeasterly airflow gradually eases over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mainly sunny with breezy southerly winds, gradually easing during the day.

Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas in the east, breaking away later in the day. Taranaki has mainly sunny skies. Southeasterly winds (strong about Taranaki) ease during the day.

Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with patchy showers, clearing in the evening about the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay. Gisborne sees early rain ease to showers which continue for the rest of the day. Strong southerlies (gusting to gale about Gisborne) gradually ease during the day.

Highs: 12-14

Wellington

Cloudy areas, chance of the odd shower otherwise mainly dry. Gusty southerlies ease later in the day.

High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Any early cloud breaks to mainly sunny skies, southeasterly winds ease during the day. Winds may tend light northeast in the afternoon for Nelson.

Highs: 13-14

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny day, light winds.

Highs: 10-12

West Coast

A mainly sunny day with light winds, some cloud possible about Buller with the chance of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry.

Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago

A mix of sun and cloud about Southland with light westerlies, chance of a shower in the evening. Mainly sunny elsewhere with light winds.

Highs: 11-13
