Saturday’s national forecast

A tightly packed low moves across the South Island today, winds will be strong from the northwest then changing around to the south as the low passes out east of the country. Some regions can expect wet weather while others will be dry, more details below.

Northland
Sunny areas and some mid / high level cloud,
thickening late afternoon. Brief late evening showers move through then clearing around midnight. Northwesterlies build from morning.
Highs: 22-23

Auckland

Sunny areas and some mid / high level cloud, thickening late afternoon.
Brief evening showers move through then clearing around midnight.
Northwesterlies build.
High: 21

Bay Of Plenty

Periods of cloud and a few sunny areas with northwesterly winds building
from late morning, a few brief showers move through in the evening then clear by
midnight with a southwest change.
High: 22

Waikato

Periods of cloud with northwesterlies building, a few showers from late
afternoon then easing around midnight as winds change southerly.
High: 21

Central North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower developing in the morning, spells
of rain a little more frequent in the afternoon then clearing by midnight as
breezy northwesterlies change southwest.
High: 19

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud with northwesterlies becoming strong in the morning, winds
may gust to gale force at times in the afternoon especially about the Wairarapa.
The odd spot of rain is possible at times during the day too. Overnight winds
change southerly with cloudy areas and a few light showers.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island

Cloudy with spells of rain, strong gusty west to northwesterly winds with a
risk of winds gusting to gale force. Rain becoming a little more patcy from
afternoon then easing further in the evening as winds change
southwesterly.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Spells of rain, clearing early to mid afternoon then a few sunny spells
breaking through. Strong to gale northwesterlies. Later in the evening winds
change brisk southerly bringing some cloud and the chance of a shower.
High: 18

Nelson

Rain clearing late morning then expect sunny spells with gusty
northwesterlies, winds ease in the evening.
Highs: 20-21

Marlborough

Some rain clears mid morning then sunny spells increase, winds strong and
gusty from the northwest gusting to gale force at times. In the evening winds
change southerly with some cloud and the chance of a shower.
High: 26

Canterbury

Morning sunny areas with breezy northwesterly winds, a strong afternoon
southerly change brings showers, possibly heavy with some thunder which then
eases evening and clears overnight. Southerly winds gusting to gale force
especially about the coast in the afternoon.
High: 24

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms ease by midday to showers, brisk northwesterly winds
tend west to southwest during the afternoon. Showers clear in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Coastal Otago

Rain develops in the morning possibly heavy with a southerly change,
showers then ease afternoon and clear in the evening.
Highs: 12-13

Central Otago

Cloudy with rain developing by mid morning, southerly winds freshen. Rain
eases in the afternoon and clears by evening, cool southerlies die out later in
the day.
Highs: 13-14

Southland

Rain, possibly heavy then easing in the afternoon and clearing by evening.
A few sunny spells break through from late afternoon. Cool southwesterly winds
ease in the evening.
High: 12

This is the best spring we had had in a while.  Looks like NW for most of the next week as well!  Warm, dry (apart from the odd thunder storm) and sunny most of the time.  How great is this weather!?
