RainWatch: Thursday’s 24 hour rainfall

Two large anticyclones sit either side of New Zealand today, an occluded front stretching out from the east brings rain to eastern North Island areas meanwhile warm temperatures may bring isolated heavy showers to inland spots this afternoon / evening.

Rain about the northeastern corner of the North Island eases this afternoon with showers becoming patchy. Inland Central North Island areas see showers possibly becoming heavy in isolated spots then easing overnight, showers may contain thunder also.

For the South Island expect the odd light shower about Fiordland. Most inland areas see the odd isolated shower develop this afternoon then clearing at night. Eastern Otago and perhaps South Canterbury sees showers becoming heavy in spots with a chance of thunder, clearing at night also.
