A few rumbles were heard yesterday around the Canterbury region.
This great photo, taken by the MetService webcam, shows just how brooding the clouds really were.

This amazing photo was taken by the Press newspaper at Chch airport..showing the rare event of the NW arch cloud morphing into a thunderstorm. Several lightening strikes were recorded in and around Chch but the system blew itself out shortly after

The Press actually credit MetService with the above image, stating that it’s from a northeast facing Christchurch Airport webcam taken at 6.40am on Sunday?

Hi there, we were not aware this was from the webcam – so have attributed MetService.
Please remember if you’re sending in an image to WeatherWatch.co.nz that it must be yours, or you have permission to upload it to our site by the owner of the image.
Many thanks

(p.s. – it is a very cool image!)

Nothing heard here or seen but we did have a short intense rain-shower in the early hours of the morning from probably the same system.
