Monday’s weather outlook

A ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand on Monday, a front in the Tasman Sea stretches out over the lower South Island bringing some rain in the west.

North Island

From Northland across to East Cape expect cloudy areas and a few showers (especially in the east), winds from the east. Sunny areas and high cloud elsewhere with light northerly quarter winds.

South Island

A mostly cloudy day along the West Coast, rain about South Westland with heavy falls possible. North Westland is fairly cloudy also but there may be some sun break through the further north you go into Buller. Sunny areas and some high cloud for Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury with light northerly quarter winds.

Thick high cloud for Otago, there may be a spot of rain mainly late afternoon / evening. Southland has a mix of rain and dry spells with light winds.

Temperatures

High’s ranging from 12 to 17 degrees across most of the North Island, the warmest high’s being about Northland and Auckland, the coldest about the Central Plateau.

High’s in the mid teens for Canterbury and Marlborough, low double figures or low teens for most other regions.
