Monday’s national forecast

An anticyclone brings mainly settled weather to New Zealand today.

North Island

Expect mostly sunny weather about Auckland, Waikato and the Bay Of Plenty with southeasterly winds. Northland sees sunny areas out west, some cloud in the east may bring a shower or two. In the afternoon winds become light and sea breezes develop. The lower North Island is mostly sunny however expect some cloud for Kapiti, spreading up into Taranaki during the afternoon. Winds from the west or northwest in the west, northeast in the east.

South Island

For the West Coast, expect a mix of sun and cloud. Fiordland is cloudier however with the odd shower, turning to rain by evening. A sunny day for Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury, winds are light tending east to northeast in the afternoon for eastern areas. Southland and Otago is mainly sunny also but in the evening there may be some cloud, perhaps a late evening spot of rain.

Temperatures

Temperatures reaching into the mid twenties for most of the North Island, perhaps high twenties for Waikato. High’s in the mid to late twenties for Buller, Nelson and right down the east coast to Southland. High’s in the early thirties possible for parts of Marlborough and Canterbury. Temperatures along the West Coast south of Greymouth will be in the late teens or early twenties.
