Monday’s national forecast

Southwesterly breezes for the North Island today brisk in the west about the coastline. Winds tending more westerly about Kapiti, Wellington and on the east coast in the morning. The odd shower south of Taranaki in the west then early afternoon showers developing in most areas although the Bay Of Plenty particularly in the east and Gisborne may remain mostly dry. Showers clear from eastern areas in the evening however the odd lingering shower elsewhere.

Showers on the West Coast of the South Island clearing this morning with the odd sunny break then developing, cool southwesterlies. Sunny with light winds to start in Marlborough and Nelson, southwesterlies freshen by mid morning with some cloud possible. Southwesterlies freshen early in the morning for Canterbury bringing some cloud and the risk of the odd shower any of which clear in the evening with southwesterlies then easing.

A few showers about Southland and Otago with cool west to southwest winds, showers retreating to the Catlins in the evening.

High’s of 15 to 16 across the North Island today, a bit cooler about Taranaki through to Wellington and the Central North Island on 13 to 14 degrees. East coast areas may touch 17 or 18 before an afternoon southwesterly moves through. High’s will reach the mid teens in Nelson and Marlborough, 13 for the West Coast and about Canterbury. 11 to 12 degrees today in Southland and Otago.
