A slim ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand today while a low is centred just west of the North Island, this low rotates over the upper North Island later in the evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy for Northland and Auckland, sunnier about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. Showers spread into Northland during this morning, Auckland during the afternoon and perhaps a shower or two may make it into Waikato and Bay Of Plenty in the evening. Winds are light then tending to the east and freshening.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy about Taranaki for most of the day bringing the possibility of a light shower or two. Morning mid level cloud then some afternoon sun / high cloud elsewhere. A chance of fog to start the day for inland areas. Light winds.
Highs: 14-15

Eastern North Island
Morning cloud for the Wairarapa breaks to sunny areas and some high cloud. Elsewhere conditions are mostly sunny with high cloud. Cloud thickens up this evening / overnight with southerlies.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington
Partly cloudy with southerly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud north of Banks Peninsula, cloudy areas further south. Light winds tend to the south.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
A mostly cloudy start, sun starts to break through during the morning for North Westland although there will be some high cloud about also. Showers Greymouth southwards gradually ease and clear during the day with the last showers clearing away in the evening.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two possible, more so about inland areas. Light winds tend to the south or southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 10-13
