Monday’s national forecast

A large high slips eastwards south of New Zealand today while a deepening low moves towards the North Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy, there may be a shower or two about, more so from afternoon then rain develops in the evening. This area of rain may be heavy, especially overnight. At this stage it’s looking to be Coromandel, Great Barrier Island and Auckland that receives heavy rain however parts of northern Waikato and northern Bay Of Plenty may see some heavy rain also. Winds from the southeast, perhaps rising to gale in the evening about some exposed eastern coastlines.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Plenty of high cloud, a few patchy showers or spots of rain from late afternoon. Southeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island
Cloudy, the odd light shower about Gisborne spreads southwards during the morning. Rain moves into Gisborne from afternoon with heavy falls possible, rain pushes southwards overnight. Southeasterly winds strengthen.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington
The odd shower or drizzle patch, southeasterly winds freshen.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy about Marlborough with patchy rain or drizzle, more so from afternoon. Nelson sees high cloud, thickening and lowering this afternoon. Freshening southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-15

Canterbury
Patchy rain or drizzle, southerly winds.
Highs: 9-11

West Coast
Plenty of high cloud with southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud for most, coastal Otago sees cloudier skies with the odd drizzle patch possible for northern parts of Otago. Light winds tend easterly or northeast.
Highs: 9-11
