A front moves northwards over the upper South Island this morning then onto the lower North Island this afternoon bringing rain.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, cloud thickening later this evening. Rain moves into the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty later this evening or overnight. Westerly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower. Rain develops around midday or early afternoon as northwesterlies change southeast, rain may be heavy for a time then clearing later this evening or overnight. The southeast change may not reach Taranaki till evening.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, rain develops late morning about the Wairarapa then spreading into Hawkes Bay late afternoon with a cool southwest change. Rain may not reach Gisborne till later this evening.
Highs: 19-28

Wellington
Rain develops this morning with heavy falls for a time, easing this afternoon then clearing in the evening. Strong to gale northwesterly winds change brisk southerly late morning.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough & Nelson
Rain develops this morning as northwest winds change fresh southeasterly. Rain may be heavy for a time then easing this afternoon and clearing away. Some sun possible for a time later today otherwise fairly cloudy.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury
Morning rain (possible heavy first thing) then easing to patchy showers and drizzle which may not clear till evening, a fairly cloudy day. Fresh southwesterly winds ease later in the day.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast
Sunny about South Westland, morning rain clears North Westland then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-23

Southland & Otago
Morning showers then a few sunny spells break through in the afternoon, south to southwesterly winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 14-18
