A weakening front moves over the upper South Island then onto the lower North Island this morning, fairly settled otherwise with mainly anticyclonic conditions.

North Island
Mostly sunny for Northland, Auckland and the Waikato sees cloudy areas then sun becoming more frequent from afternoon. The Bay Of Plenty is mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears. Winds from the west or southwest. Mostly cloudy for Taranaki through to Kapiti in the west, expect the odd shower especially afternoon then clearing in the evening, winds from the west.

Cloud and the odd shower moves into Wairarapa this morning, clearing evening. Mostly sunny for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, light winds tend southerly in the afternoon, cloud thickens in the evening bringing the odd late light shower or drizzle patch.

High's in the mid to late twenties for many North Island regions today, early thirties for parts of Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne. Temperatures in the low to mid twenties for the Wairarapa, Wellington and through to Taranaki in the west.

South Island
Morning cloud with the risk of a shower for North Westland then sunny spells increase, sunny spells for South Westland however further into Fiordland skies become cloudier again with a few showers. Winds from the southwest. Morning cloud for Nelson breaks to mostly sunny weather, southwest winds tend northerly in the afternoon. Morning showers clear Marlborough, sunny spells break through this afternoon as light winds tend northeast. Any early showers clear Canterbury, cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather this afternoon as easterly winds freshen.

Mostly sunny for Otago with westerlies, near the coast some cloud develops in the afternoon as winds tend east to northeast. Chance of a shower near the coast late afternoon / evening. Cloudy areas and a few showers for Southland, westerly winds.

High's in the late teens or early twenties for most of the South Island today, mid twenties for the Nelson region.
