A front moves northwards over the South Island today reaching the lower North Island this afternoon, potentially unstable conditions develop about the far south this afternoon. Winds mostly from the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy, chance of a light shower or two. The greatest risk comes later this evening and overnight. Northland has a mainly dry day. Gusty west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 26-30

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with some rain at times, areas of drizzle too then clearing this evening. Gusty west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, there may be a spot of rain spread from the west otherwise mainly dry. Winds brisk to strong from the northwest.
Highs: 31-34

Wellington

Some rain, especially early afternoon then easing and clearing this evening. Strong to gale northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Some rain, clearing around midday then becoming mostly sunny this afternoon. Strong northwesterlies, gusting to gale at times about Marlborough.
Highs: 23-26

Canterbury

Morning rain then clearing with sun breaking through, breezy northwesterlies strong about North Canterbury with gusts to gale at times. This afternoon a southerly change develops about the coast Banks Peninsula southwards bringing the chance of a few showers, a few may be heavy then clearing by evening.
Highs: 25-26

West Coast

Rain, heavy at times especially this morning. Breezy northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Southland & Otago

Rain, easing by midday. Showers this afternoon, a few may be heavy with thunderstorms then easing later on. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18
