A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today. Some regions start off fairly dry with some sun, then showers gradually move into most areas by evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells and showers, with showers more likely from afternoon onwards. The Bay Of Plenty may remain fairly dry for much of the day. Westerly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas with west to southwest winds. Showers move in during the afternoon about Taranaki then some rain in the evening. South of Taranaki showers may not move in till late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 13-16
 
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with west to southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 17-18
 
Wellington
Sunny areas with southerly breezes, some rain moves in overnight.
High: 13
 
Marlborough & Nelson
A mainly sunny day with light winds, showers move in later in the evening or overnight.
Highs: 13-14
 
Canterbury
Sunny areas with southwesterly breezes, cloud thickens during the evening with a few showers moving in.
High: 12
 
West Coast
Mostly sunny, a few showers move in late afternoon / evening. South Westland remains largely dry with southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 11-12
 
Southland & Otago
Showers with cold southwesterly winds, a mainly sunny start about Central Otago with showers not spreading there until afternoon.
Highs: 8-9
