A front sitting just on the northeastern fringe of the North Island slowly moves away to the northeast today, meanwhile a north to northwesterly airflow strengthens over the rest of the country. Another front moves onto the lower South Island this afternoon then gradually moves northwards in the evening.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and some sun. Light winds tend southwesterly by midday for most. There may be some early morning rain or showers about the Bay Of Plenty any of which clears, some rain may hang about eastern Bay Of Plenty / East Cape till evening however.
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas with west to northwesterly winds, cloud thickens a little later in the day.
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Sunny areas and increasing cloud with gusty northwesterly winds from midday, strong at times.
Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny weather with a touch of high cloud possible later in the day, light winds this morning then north to northwesterly winds pick up after midday.
Any early fog clears away then expect a mainly sunny day, northerly winds becoming breezy in the afternoon. Gusty north to northwesterly winds possible about inland areas after midday.
Cloudy, rain about South Westland with heavy falls at times then spreading northwards late afternoon / evening. Breezy northwesterly winds change southwest later in the day.
Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy for Southland and Central Otago, a mainly dry morning however there may be a spot of rain or two. After midday more widespread rain sets in for a time before easing later. Coastal Otago sees sunny areas and increasing high cloud, late evening rain. Northerlies change gusty west to southwest late afternoon / evening.Highs: 17-22
