MetService Auckland rain radar still offline – helicopter called in

Aucklanders may have noticed the rain radar isn’t working. MetService provided us with an update on Friday:

“Our technicians quickly identified that the cause is due to a fault with a piece of the communications technology.  We are liaising closely with the third-party provider who supply and maintain this equipment. Replacement parts needed for the fix have been shipped and are presently in transit to the provider who will also install them as soon as possible” says a statement from MetService to WeatherWatch.

“The radar site is only accessible via helicopter and therefore weather dependent. While we don’t have an exact ETA on install, we can tell you that the weather conditions are looking favourable today[Friday] and into the weekend”.

High pressure is sitting over Auckland which means the weather is pretty settled.

MetService says they will provide a further update Monday if it has not been resolved by then.
