An large anticyclone covers New Zealand on Saturday bringing mainly settled weather. This high starts to get shunted northwards on Sunday with a northwesterly airflow building over the South Island.

A light shower or two may affect Northland on Saturday in the afternoon, also the east coast in the morning then clearing away. Mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. The South Island has a mainly sunny day, some cloud in the west especially about South Westland.

Mostly sunny weather continues for much of the North Island on Sunday, some cloud will start to develop for a few western areas. Cloudy skies for the West Coast of the South Island, a few light showers gradually move in then expect heavy rain about Fiordland overnight. Mainly sunny in the east with warm temperatures getting into the low 20’s for some.
