A northwesterly airflow builds over the country on Saturday with an anticyclone centred west of the North Island. Northwesterlies ease on Sunday but still flow over the country.

Mostly sunny for the upper North Island on Saturday however there may be a few early clearing showers in the northeast, Northland may see an isolated shower or two in the afternoon. A mostly sunny day for the east coast, a mix of sun and cloud in the west Taranaki through to Kapiti. Cloudy areas for the West Coast of the South Island, showers for South Westland then rain later in the evening becoming heavy. Southland and Otago sees some scattered rain at times spreading from the west. Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson has some high cloud.

Some cloud for the western North Island on Sunday, especially Taranaki through to Kapiti where there may even be a shower or two. Sunnier conditions out east with some high cloud and hot temperatures. Rain or showers for the West Coast of the South Island, rain may be heavy in the morning but it will gradually ease. Drier out east with some high cloud and hot temperatures, a few morning spots of rain possible for Marlborough.
