Hot in Hastings; wet in Wellington

Hastings is the place to be in the country right now, sitting just under 30 degrees(!) after a couple of windy and unsettled days for the eastern North Island.

The lower North Island, meanwhile, is looking decidedly soggy – with more than 12mm of rain falling in Wellington so far today, while the top of the South Island is similarly wet.
Nelson has received more than 24mm of rain in the last 24 hours, with the majority falling early this morning and overnight last night.

Kaikoura, meanwhile, is the chilliest place in the country – sitting at just over 14c at 2pm – not exactly Summery conditions!
