Friday’s national forecast

A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front within this flow pushes into the southwestern corner of the South Island by midday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud may bring a shower (especially about the Waikato) then sunny areas increase, west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning showers then expect sunny spells, breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, westerly winds.
Highs: 21-24

Wellington
Early showers clear then sunny areas increase, breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with afternoon northwesterly winds for Marlborough. Morning southwesterlies tend westerly in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Risk of an early shower then mostly sunny, a touch of high cloud from afternoon. Afternoon north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

West Coast
The odd shower, rain moves into Fiordland around midday with heavy falls then spreading northwards reaching into North Westland in the evening.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, some evening rain for Southland. Rain spreads into western Central Otago from afternoon (Queenstown etc) North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-20
