Friday’s national forecast

A west to southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a weak front pushes off the upper South Island this morning then moves over the North Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers about the Waikato spreading elsewhere during the morning, perhaps not reaching Northland till afternoon however. Northwesterly winds change southwest in the afternoon then showers mostly clear evening.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with showers at times, mainly morning then drying out from afternoon. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island
A few showers move into Wairarapa in the morning then clear evening, winds from the east or southeast. Further north expect mostly sunny weather then there may be some cloud build from afternoon as light winds tend onshore.
Highs: 14-17

Wellington
Mostly sunny, light winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Chance of a morning shower about Marlborough then sunny areas increase in the afternoon. A mostly sunny day for Nelson. West to southwest winds, tending east to northeast in the afternoon for Marlborough.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Mostly sunny, may be a touch of high cloud. Light winds.
Highs: 11-13

West Coast
Cloudy areas, may be a shower at times but long dry periods too. Fiordland has a higher risk of showers during the day then elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy about Southland with the odd shower, Otago has a mix of sun and cloud. Breezy to brisk westerly winds.
Highs: 10-13
