Friday’s national forecast

An area of low pressure brings some rain to the North Island today, especially the upper half. Further south conditions are more settled however a southerly in the east brings some cloud and eventually drizzle.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower then a period of afternoon / evening rain, possibly heavy. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloud with the odd shower, areas of rain at times for northern Taranaki and the Central North Island. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with a few spits of rain or showers, rain about East Cape may be heavy in the evening and the Wairarapa may stay fairly dry or most of the day. Northerly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington
Sunny spells with northerly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible, north to northwesterly winds change south to southeast in the evening.
Highs: 14-17

Canterbury
Some morning sun then afternoon cloud as light winds tend southeast, evening drizzle then overnight patchy rain.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Some sun possible at first for Southland then cloud develops during the morning as light winds change south to southeast, some light drizzle may develop by midday. A similar story for Otago however cloud and southeasterlies don’t develop till midday.
Highs: 7-10
