A large anticyclone sits west of New Zealand in the Tasman Sea today, this combined with a low to the east directs a cold southerly airflow over the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A period of morning showers then sunny spells develop from afternoon, southerly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional showers with cool south to southeasterly winds, gusty about coastal fringe areas then easing from afternoon.
Highs: 8-11

Eastern North Island
Showers, morning rain about Gisborne eases to showers. Fresh south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Wellington
Showers, brisk to strong southerly winds.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning showers clear then expect sunny spells, south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 8-12

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy with showers north of about Ashburton, easing in the evening and retreating out to Banks Peninsula. South Canterbury has some morning cloud then mostly sunny. Winds fairly cool from the southwest, fresh about the coast.
Highs: 7-10

West Coast
Sunny with south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-11

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy about Southland and coastal Otago, may be a shower otherwise mainly dry. Central Otago has a mix of sun and cloud. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 7-10
