A weak but large high sits in the Tasman Sea today meanwhile a weak area of low pressure lies over New Zealand.

North Island

Cloudy areas and occasional sun for Northland through to Waikato today, chance of a shower mainly afternoon. Southwesterly winds. The Bay Of Plenty is mostly sunny although there may be some cloud at times in the west. Cloudy areas for Taranaki, risk of a shower or two, sunny spells elsewhere about the lower western North Island. Mostly sunny along the east coast, some cloud at times from afternoon, light winds tend east to northeast after midday.

Temperatures reaching into the mid twenties for most regions in the North Island today, late twenties for some Bay Of Plenty areas and perhaps inland Northland.

South Island

Morning cloud for the West Coast, risk of a light shower or two then sun breaks through from afternoon. Canterbury has mostly cloudy skies with a shower or two possible, drying out near the coastal fringe in the afternoon with some sun possibly even breaking through. Southland and Otago are mostly cloudy also with a shower or two, some sun breaks through from afternoon about Southland and Central Otago. Nelson and Marlborough are mostly sunny, cloud increases from afternoon however bringing the risk of a shower, more so for Marlborough. Winds are from the east or southeast in the east, west to southwesterly winds in the west.

High’s in the low to mid twenties for most around the South Island, perhaps late twenties for Central Otago and Buller (especially inland). Temperatures may only reach into the late teens for coastal Otago.
